ATC Monday #009 - "Framed Heart"

It's Monday night... time for another ATC!

Part of my ATC project is to create a libaray of techniques, or designs that work together - this particular tutorial is no exception. With ideas taken from a much large scale project (step by step can be found here) I have scaled the design down to be more suitable for ATCs!

List of products used;

That's Crafty ATC with frame

DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics Metallic Gold

DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics Prussian Blue Hue

DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics Cadmium Red Hue

DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics Primary Magenta

DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics Cadmium Orange Hue

DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics Quinacridone Gold

DecoArt Media Crackle Paste White

DecoArt Weathered Wood

DecoArt Chackle Paint Everlasting

DecoArt 3D Dimensional Paste

DecoArt Decoupage Glue Matte

Step One

Paint a base layer of Metallic Gold on to the ATC surface, once dry; roughly spread a layer of White Crackle Paste over the ATC using a pallette knife.

It is best to get an uneven spread as this will result is a variety of crackles. Where there is a thinner layer of paste there will be smaller cracks, while thicker paste will give wider cracks.

Set to one side and allow to dry fully.

Step Two

Next up we can decorate the frame, That's Crafty produce a range of ATCs - I think the framed ones are so cute!

Initially paint the frame in Prussian Blue Hue then introduce a layer of Weathered Wood. Once the Weathered Wood is dry apply Everlasting Chalk Paint, remember to apply to chalk paint in even brush strokes and try not to go over the same area twice, so as not to disturb the crackle process.

Step Three

To create your centre motif, build a layer of Dimensional 3D Paste on to a greyboard heart embellishment.

Allow the paste to dry fully and paint in a mix of Cadmium Red Hue, Cadmium Orange Hue, Primary Magenta and Quinacridone Gold. Using a good mix of colours across the surface of the heart will give highlights and lowlights, tonal colour.

Dry brush and edge in Metallic Gold to pick out the textured detail.

Step Four

Finally, glue all the elements together using Decoupage Matte Glue, add a sentiment and edge the frame in Metallic Gold to finish.
