ATC Monday #020 - Busy Bee
After 20 Monday night posts, I am enjoying the routine of ATC Monday and I hope you are too!
This week I have tried out the brand new DecoArt Americana Premium Acrylics, and what a delight they are to use!
Paint a base layer of DecoArt Media Fluid Arylics Yellow Oxide over the ATC. Once dry lay the honeycomb stencil over your ATC and introduce a layer of Primary Yellow, Pyrrole Orange and Yellow Oxide using a stenciling brush. Gently remove the stencil by slowly pealing one edge and lifting it away.
Using a fine black pen (my personal prefernce being Pigma Micron) draw your design on to the ATC. You can always trace the design if you find this easier.
With a fine brush, paint in your design. For my bee I have used DecoArt Americana Premium Acrylics in Primary Yellow, Paynes Grey, Dark Grey and Warm Grey for the body. The coverage is excellent, covering the layers below in one coat. Being a medium body viscosity they not only stay where you put them - they are also easily encourage to other areas. They also give a particularly nice satin finish.
For the wings I needed something far more translucent, using Interference Turquoise and Magenta gives a lovely shimmer.
To finish add little gems to the eyes for added detail and edge the ATC in gold. Build up the edge to give the impression of honey!
