ATC Monday #022 - Colour Play

Good evening! It’s time for another instalment of ATC Monday. This time around we will be looking at how colour effects the feel of a painting.

Here we have taken the steps as seen in the tutorial for this tag, available here and played around with the colour palette.

The original tag features a much more grungy feel;

The deep earthy colours, coordinating papers and rusty layers create a vintage vibe I like to use in a lot of my work.

To mix things up I decided to try out bright and bold colours. Using DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics in Primary Cyan and Primary Magenta, I wanted to create a fun feel to the piece.

Carefully selecting elements that matched my theme, with papers picking out key colours along with colourful wash tape - every layer choice reflecting the colour choices.

I often find this is a good way to kickstart the creative process. Taking an idea you are familiar with and stepping out of your comfort zone when it comes to colour choices can help spark a new idea.
