Danger! Grungy Tag

With Halloween not far away here's some spooky inspiration!

This grungy tag featuring layers of washes and crackles.

Step One

On to a long greyboard tag, paint a base layer of White Gesso to seal, once dry add a layer of Primary Yellow.

Build wash layers of Paynes Grey and Quinacridone Gold, building the intensity of the colours towards the edges of the tag. Dry areas of the washes with a heat gun to create an interesting effect.

Once the washes are dry, edge the tag in Paynes Grey to frame.

Step Two

Select your stamps and stamp your design on to the background. For my tag I have used stamps from Andy Skinner's range.

When the stamped images are dry, paint a thin layer of Decoupage Matte Glue over the tag.

Once the glue is fully dry, add a thin layer of Crackle Glaze.

Step Three

When the glaze is completely dry, paint over the entire tag using Carbon Black Antiquing Cream. Using a soft brush, work the cream in to all the crackles.

Buff away the excess cream, leaving the cream in the crackles and an amount around the edges of the tag to give an extra element of grunge.

Finish with a layer of Ultra Matte Varnish to seal.
