Dare 2 Create, Coventry, June 2017
Held at the Holiday Inn in Coventry, this is the second year the event has come to the UK. This year it was supported by the wonderful team at Tando Creative - and what fun we had!
The weekend schedule sees you enjoy a meet and great on Friday evening, a chance to meet your fellow workshop attendees and talk with Andy, Tracy and the team. Saturday you spend a full day working through a project with one tutor, and then Sunday you have a half day workshop in the morning followed by a second workshop with both Andy and Tracy in the afternoon.
For Saturdays full day workshop I was lucky enough to spend the day creating this fab project with Tracy. We layered up techniques and washes to create the crackled background then added stamped images from Tracys range of pretty flower stamps. Encouraged to make the projct our own, each of us painted and embellished the flowers in our individual styles. This is one of things I love most about workshops, while we were all following the same project, the variety of styles, colour palletts and designs was so vast!
During the evening the entertainment continued with make and takes and demonstrations. All aspects of mixed media are covered and you are free to pick and choose which demos to watch and enjoy.
With Andy for our half day workshop, we created tags. The techniques focused on crackled and distressed backgrounds, highlighted with a variety of washes and finished with rusty elements including rusty wire (stay tuned to my blog for an exciting announcement along these lines coming very soon!!!)
The workshop is packed full of tips and information and presented at a really easy to follow pace.
The final workshop of the weekend sees the seperate classes join forces to work through the joint project piece, with both Andy and Tracy demonstrating alternate steps. With a focus on colour and layering, I really love the effects created in this cute canvas with a houses theme.
I cannot express enough, just how fun and inspirational a weekend away crafting is. These workshops give you the opportunity to learn so many new things, not only from the incredible tutors but also from your fellow students. If you do ever get the chance, I siply cannot recommend Dare 2 Create highly enough!
