Step One

Prime a Greyboard Tag with White Gesso and layer with a wash of Payne’s Grey, allow the wash to pool and dry naturally; creating interesting watermark effects.

Step Two

Mix a small amount of Payne’s Grey into Modelling Paste and roughly draw this through the Gears and Cogs Stencil.

Step Three

Once the paste is dry add a wash of Quinacridone Gold, allowing the paint to pool around the raised cogs to create depth. When the wash layers are dry, dry brush the tag with White Gesso and a stiff brush to highlight the edges of the cogs.

Step Four

Take a selection of greyboard cog embellishments..To give them a rusted effect; apply a wash of Payne's Grey, Quinacridone Gold and Yellow Oxide. Finish the wash with Metallic Silver and fix to the tag base, layering the elements up to create interest.
